Historical Jerez Last Corner Clash

The Last Corner of Circuito de Jerez is a hairpin that very possibly to overtake. This corner become very crucial in every last lap battle.


2013: Marquez vs Lorenzo

In 2013 Dani Pedrosa lead the race with the big gap between himself and Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez in the final lap. The battle for 2.d place became so intense between the two spaniard (Lorenzo & Marquez). In spite of the intense of the battle there were no overtaked until the last corner. In that moment Lorenzo came to the corner with big space in the inside line. Marquez saw took this chance to passed Lorenzo. He made very late brake and squeezed Lorenzo and they made contact that push Lorenzo wide out of the track to run off area. Finally Marquez finish 2nd and Lorenzo 3rd.

Lorenzo was surprised with Marquez manouver. He was very angry because the dangerous action of Marquez. The Drama continous as Lorenzo show the refused gesture to shaking hand with Marquez.






2005: Rossi vs Gibernau

In the more past time the best Jerez last corner drama served on 2005.
Rossi lead the race in early last lap with Gibernau in his tail. Rossi made a mistake in turn 6 (Dry Sac corner) and run wide, as Gibernau took this chance to passed Rossi and lead the race.


Then Rossi tried to overtake Gibernau in turn 11 but he almost crashed and lost some speed so Gibernau could recovery his position.

Out of turn 12 Rossi wanted to overtake Gibernau from right side but then change his line to the left side and squeezed Gibernau with very very late brake until put his left foot touch the asphalt and made contact.

Beacause of the late braking Rossi run wide of the last corner as Gibernau was Squeezed and pushed pushed into the gravel. As soon as Gibernau was run wide to the gravel the contact was released and made Rossi can control his bike through the final corner freely and stole the victory. Luckily for Gibernau, he could bring his bike back to the race track without crashed and finish in 2nd place.




1996: Doohan vs Criville

Another big drama happened in 1996 between team mate where the home hero Alex Criville challenging the motogp legend in that time Mick Doohan. Criville dominated the race as Doohan started to catching him. The spectators was very enthusiastic because it might be the first spanish rider won the spanish GP. Seemed Criville would win this race.

But everything is change since turn 9 of the last lap. THE SPECTATORS INVADED THE TRACK in turn 9-10 when the race was going on. They give their support for criville in very close distance. This might be the most dangerous action from the spectators in motogp history. Wonder why no red flag in that moment.


But this incident had big consequence as Criville surprised and made Doohan came closer. Doohan made clean overtaked in last corner.

Criville would try to overtaked Doohan in last straight with gain more power when acceleration ended with lost control of his bike and highside crashed.
Finally Doohan finished first as Criville got DNF. What a painful for Doohan and the crazy spaectators!!!
